Tera
Lanczak, the lifeblood of Bay Blue Kennels, has
dedicated her life to raising and training
champion retrievers. Tera is Owner/Trainer of
Bay Blue Kennels (
www.baybluekennels.com),
wintering in Giddings, TX and summering in Au
Gres, MI. Bay Blue Kennels has focused on
developing young, competitive retrievers for
hunt tests, field trials, and working gun dogs.
Tera has developed a new website,
www.ForceFetch.com , for retriever
enthusiasts looking for knowledge of the
conditioned retrieve. Force fetch training is a
very time-consuming and tedious process where
attention to detail is critical. Timing and
rhythm, along with the aid of your body
language, are key elements in the successful
teaching of the force fetch. Visit her website
for information and videos on the ins and outs
of Force Fetch Training.

The Balanced Retriever Training Forum with
Bill Hillmann
For
the last few months Bill Hillmann has been
participating in a new type of retriever
training forum where he has guided owners of 5
different dogs in the training of their own
dogs. There has been a wide range in the ages of
the dogs and in various stages of training. Much
useful information has been learned by all and
now a few openings are available to others who
may need help in their training. Bill is
excellent at problem solving for all levels of
training, so join in the conversations.
A few select openings are available: Clients
will video their training sessions and submit
them to the training forum. On a weekly basis
Bill will then critique the sessions and post
comments online so that those training episodes
can be followed by interested viewers. Contact

Canine heartworm disease has had little presence in Southern California in years past because the dry climate doesn’t suit the mosquito vector, but cases are on an upswing there. Ventura County, Calif., reported 26 heartworm cases in 2010, up from only seven in 2009. Some think that increased owner mobility and Hurricane Katrina contributed to [...]
Some of you might be familiar with the bacterial disease leptospirosis, perhaps through the vaccine given to dogs. But leptospirosis, or lepto, can infect other animals and people as well. First identified in the late 19th Century, lepto has been recognized as an emerging global health problem due to large clusters of cases resulting from [...]
Chagas disease is a problem in Latin America and may be more serious in Texas than health officials thought; it could be the culprit in several canine and human deaths in the state, experts said this week. The illness is transmitted by triatomine insects, also called “assassin bugs” or “kissing bugs.” The insects become infected [...]
