Vern Cooney and AFC Whisp of Carbon

Congratulations to Vern Cooney and his new AFC!! AFC Whisp of Carbon attained her Amateur Field Champion title in style this year! First she won the Amateur Memorial Day Weekend at the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club in Fallon, NV. Next she won the Owner/Handler Amateur in July at the Sacramento Valley Retriever Club in Portola, CA, and then she finished her AFC Title by winning the Amateur at the Shasta Cascade Field Trial in August at Klamath Falls, OR! What a streak!

Vern told me this about Smoke, “I was looking for a Carbon pup in the Fall of 2003 and had been talking to Frank Kasheveroff about who he had bred Carbon with. One of the breedings he told me about was with Todd Scheuble in Minnesota. I called and talked to Todd about Splash his bitch that he had bred to Carbon. Todd then refered me to Mark Madore a good friend of his that had started working for Jim Gonia at McKenna Kennels. I called Mark and talked some more about Splash and liked what I had heard. I imediately called Todd back and reserved one of the pups. Her basics was done by Mark and he did a great job. She didn’t run a lot of derbies, but was All Age Qualified at 2 1/2 years old. I kept seeing things in her I liked and kept hoping that everything would fall into place and she would start getting competitive in the major stakes. Well  this year she has, she made her AFC and qualified for the National Amatuer in Klammath Falls in 2010. She is a joy to run and I am having fun. I guess the last thing I can say about her is I liked her so much that I purchased another pup from Todd when they did a third breeding and that is Splash of Carbon “Hydro”.
