Patton

They are never here long enough, and the retriever world lost a true champion with the passing of NFC AFC Five Star General Patton in December.

Patton was owned by Deb Bredeson and trained in his early years by Jim Van Engen at Right Start Kennels. He had a very successful early career and placed 2nd in the Qualifying and won a Derby at the triple D/Q in the Spillway right before he turned two. Patton went on to Andy Attar’s Autumn Run Kennel with Paul Sletten as his assistant for his transition training. Mike Lardy and Dave Smith took over at Handjem Kennels for his All-Age career and the rest is history.

Patton’s career includes the following notable achievements:

  • 1998 Derby List
  • 1999 QAA at 20 months old
  • 2003 earned FC and AFC titles
  • 2003 WINNER National Open Champion
  • 2003 National Amateur Qualifier
  • 2004 FINALIST National Open Chamipionship
  • 2004 National Amateur Qualifier
  • 2004 DOUBLEHEADER winner
  • 2004 Purina High Point Open #5 Dog
  • 2005 FINALIST National Open Championship
  • 2005 FINALIST National Amateur Championship
  • 2006 FINALIST National Open Championship
  • 2006 National Amateur Championship qualifier

Patton was also a FIVE STAR sire and sired many, many QAA dogs, derby list dogs, and FC/AFC’s. The following are some of the more famous dogs out of Patton:

Patton was a true champion both on and off the field and will always be remembered. Our deepest sympathies are with Deb, her family and those whose lives Patton touched.
